A benefit concert’s taking place in Winnipeg to help raise funds for families affected by the recent tornado devastation in Long Plain First Nation. Rhonda Head organized the event and shares what they’re doing.

“We’re having a group of first nation musicians who have agreed to come and volunteer their time and their talents. We’re doing a silent auction to fundraise just to help out the people of Long Plain.”

Head explains how she thought of the effort.

“I was reading my Facebook posts and there was a lot of people from the area in Long Plain posting about the weather that was going on there that night. It was pretty scary. Some of the posts were saying that they’re going to hide, and that there was a tornado. I thought they’re going to need help. And sure enough, the next day people were posting about the devastation that occurred. I inboxed Chief Meeches and asked him if I could do a benefit people to help out the people that were affected by the tornado. Apparently there were 49 families affected. It’s really amazing nobody was severely hurt.”
