Canadians Interested in Learning More about Indigenous Peoples

PORT COQUITLAM: Today, the Working Effectively with Indigenous Peoples™ blog has surpassed 1 million visitors. Launched in 2014 as a free resource for people seeking fact-based information about working with Indigenous Peoples in Canada, the blog now features over 550 articles and insights on a range of topics and issues.

“I started the blog to provide additional resources that support the training I deliver,” says Bob Joseph, Jr., founder and president of Indigenous Corporate Training Inc. “Learners had so many questions arise outside the core course material I decided to answer them on a platform that would be available to our training alumni and others. We also offer free ebooks and the ebook that provides tips on what not to say or do when speaking with Indigenous Peoples has been downloaded by over 8,000 people. That level of interest tells me that Canadians want to “get it right” in their communications with Indigenous Peoples.”

The blog categories which garner the most interest include: Indigenous Consultation and Engagement; Indigenous Awareness; Indigenous Relations; the Indian Act; and residential schools. Topics vary from the primary issues facing Indigenous Peoples today to the difference between historic and modern treaties.

“The work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on residential schools certainly enlightened millions of Canadians as to what Indigenous Peoples have experienced,” adds Bob. “I also feel that the response to this blog – in a little over three years – is driven by an honest, respectful and genuine interest to learn more … and that’s positive.”
