Cora McGuire Cyrette, Executive Director of the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA).  Cora lives in Thunder Bay but her work as ED of ONWA, a province wide organization, has her travelling to work with different levels of government, and developing relationships and partnerships in communities.  Her work is also international in scope.

For example, presenting at the Healing our Spirits Worldwide (HOWS) Conference last November in Sydney, Australia and most recently spoke at the United Nations Gender Equality Regional Civil Society Forum on the topic of Violence against Indigenous Women in North America in Geneva, Switzerland.

November 25th, 2019 is the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.  It also marks the beginning of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.  The 2019 theme is ‘Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands against Rape’, with the 16 day campaign ending on December 10th, which is also Human Rights Day.  ONWA is supporting this important initiative through a number of planned community events and on-line communications.
