Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland holds a news conference in Placentia, Newfoundland and Labrador, after touring hydrogen production and export facility Argentia Renewables. She discusses Argentia’s renewable energy project with U.S.-based Pattern Energy, an agreement that was reached in June 2023. Seamus O’Regan (minister of labour and the MP for St. John’s South–Mount Pearl), Genny Picco (chair of the Port of Argentia board of directors), Cary Kottler (chief development officer of Pattern Energy), and Ken McDonald (MP for Avalon) also make remarks.

Freeland responds to questions about federal tax credits for hydrogen production, and N.L. Premier Andrew Furey’s repeated request for the federal government to pause its recently imposed clean fuel regulations and to reverse the carbon-price increase. She is also asked about measures to help with housing. (August 28, 2023)
