ECMA Announces All Ages Programming During Eastlink East Coast Music Week 2016
March 10, 2016
The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is proud to offer a number of showcases, conferences, and special events available to an all ages audience (18 and under) during Eastlink East Coast Music Week 2016, taking place in Sydney from April 13-17.
Emphasizing its commitment to youth-focused activities, ECMA is once again partnering with TD Bank Group for the TD Soundwaves Program – a series of events that gives the younger generation of artists a chance to gain some hands-on artist experience during ECMW 2016.
This year’s program includes:
TD SOUNDWAVES STUDENT CONFERENCE
Taking place in Sydney on Friday, April 15, 2016, the TD Soundwaves Student Conference offers workshops on a variety of subjects including songwriting, music videos, finding opportunities to be a part of the music industry even if you’re in a small town, and lessons from Futurepreneur Canada about business. Students will also have the opportunity to attend some of the main ECMW conference sessions.
High school students interested in attending the TD Soundwaves Student Conference should contact Laura Simpson at soundwaves@ecma.com.
TD MUSIC MOVES ME
As part of Eastlink East Coast Music Week 2016, TD and the East Coast Music Association present TD Music Moves Me. Nova Scotia high school students are encouraged to show their musical talent by recording a video of themselves performing an original or cover song and posting it on YouTube. Participants must submit using the official application form, and include the #TDMusic and #ECMW2016 hashtags to promote their video. The winner receives $1,000 for their school’s music program, two passes to the East Coast Music Week Awards Show along with return travel to the Show and overnight accommodations. The TD Music Moves Me winner is also invited to perform their song as part of the TD Pop-Up Concert.
Submissions for TD Music Moves Me close on March 18, 2016 at 5pm AST.

TD POP-UP CONCERT W/ NEON DREAMS
The public is invited to attend a free concert at the Mayflower Mall in Sydney on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 1:00pm.
The concert features headliners Neon Dreams, a Nova Scotia-based group that takes the typical production/DJ format of an EDM act and adds live instruments to bring an explosive energy to on-stage performances and studio recordings.
The band was the first EDM act signed to Waka Flocka’s management imprint, 36BRICKHOUSE, and has found recent success on commercial radio stations across the country with their single “Love Experts.”
For more information on TD Soundwaves Program, contact program coordinator Laura Simpson at soundwaves@ecma.com.
“TD is committed to creating opportunities for young people to discover their love of music,” says Tara-Lynn Hughes, SVP TD – Canada Atlantic Region. “We work with community organizations, such as the East Coast Music Association, to provide access to artists, education and engagement programming through our TD Soundwaves Program. This is just one example of our commitment to community music programs and we could not be more proud to be a part of the biggest musical celebration here on the East Coast.”
“There is often a disconnect between youth and their local music scene because they either don’t know local bands or they aren’t old enough to get into venues to see them play,” says Laura Simpson, TD Soundwaves Program coordinator. “By bringing East Coast artists to schools and creating programs with youth in mind, we hope to strengthen that connection and plant the seed for playing their own music and organizing their own shows.”
TD is the Official Bank of ECMW 2016.
