After a two week campaign, Eugene Hart was elected chief of the Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation band council Friday night.
Hart beat outgoing chief Andrew Penashue, as well as Gervais Penashue for the council’s top job, with 373 votes.
While he’s now serving a second term as director of the Innu Nation, this was Hart’s first time running in a band council election.
Hart is also vice principal of the Sheshatshiu Innu School.
