A community poetry project funded by a partnership between the Girls Action Foundation and the Native Youth Sexual Health Network. This poem was written to address violence against Aboriginal women in Canada. Aboriginal women are 3 times more likely to be a victim of violence. It speaks to the stereotypes/bias/beliefs that exist within individuals, larger society, and institutions that also enables this violence to continue? It’s time for a perspective shift, for Indigenous women to really and truly be seen, and for them to see themselves. Thank you to all those who participated in this project :). Wuucho Asonalah. Written by Helen Knott, Filmed by Russell E.
