Feds promise new and improved youth aboriginal program

HQ Comox Valley recently told you about Ottawa putting the brakes on the Cultural Connections for Aboriginal Youth Program.

The Wachiay Friendship Centre in Courtenay delivered the national initiative on a local basis, with a focus on providing various recreation and cultural activities to off-reserve aboriginal youth.

“We’ve had some very important conversations with the Ottawa based National Association of Friendship Centres head office,” explained Vancouver Island North MP and Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan. “We’re on the same page in terms of wanting to renovate the program and we will be doing that, which is a prerequisite in order to free up funding from Treasury Board.”
