First Nations Community Reads Honours Peace Pipe Dreams
This week the First Nations Communities Read program will honour PEACE PIPE DREAMS by Darrell Dennis with its annual award, as a recommended read by and about indigenous people. But as Southern Ontario Library Service First Nations consultant Nancy Cooper told us, it was just the top choice from a shortlist of worthy reads that both adults and young adults, aboriginal and non native, could enjoy and learn from, including:
–UP GHOST RIVER by Edmund Metatawabin and Alexandra Shimo.
–DREAMING IN INDIAN edited by Lisa Charleyboy and Mary Leatherdale.
–ROSE’S RUN by Dawn Dumont.
–ALL THE WAY; MY LIFE ON ICE by Jordin Tootoo.
The award will be presented at an Aboriginal History Month event happening all day on June 24 at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto.http://www.ncct.on.ca/events.php
