FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswickers are invited to celebrate the official opening of the Platinum Jubilee Garden on Sunday, June 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. No registration is required to attend this free event, and refreshments will be served.

Located on the grounds of Government House in Fredericton, the garden commemorates the Queen’s 70-year reign.

“For over 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II has exemplified the qualities of a great leader and a dedicated public servant,” said Lt.-Gov. Brenda Murphy. “This garden will serve as a living tribute to Her Majesty where New Brunswickers can reflect upon her unprecedented reign.

“While these gardens honour our Sovereign, they also recognize the sacred relationship between the Crown and Indigenous Peoples and remind us of the commitments we must continue to uphold. We look forward to celebrating this day surrounded by the people of New Brunswick.”

Each lieutenant-governor and territorial commissioner is leading the establishment of a garden in their own jurisdiction, with plants suited to the local climate. Many communities throughout New Brunswick are also organizing events to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
