Honourable Saskatchewan Government Officials Visit FNUniv for Meeting and Campus Tour

Regina, SK – Senior officials from the Saskatchewan government visited the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) for a high-level meeting and campus tour. The delegation included:
- The Honourable Ken Cheveldayoff – Minister of Advanced Education, MLA for Saskatoon Willowgrove
- The Honourable Eric Schmalz – Minister of Government Relations, Minister Responsible for First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs, Minister Responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission, MLA for Saskatchewan Rivers
- Louise Michaud – Deputy Minister, Advanced Education
- Mark Wyatt – Assistant Deputy Minister, Advanced Education
Fearence Francis, President of the Regina Campus Students’ Association, and university staff welcomed the delegation. The visit began with an introduction to FNUniv’s ceremonial tipi in the atrium, highlighting its cultural significance. The group then proceeded to the university library, where Paula Daigle greeted them and provided an overview of FNUniv’s collections and services.
The officials also stopped by the Fine Arts Studio, where they received a presentation from Audrey Dreaver, Fine Arts Faculty Member and Program Coordinator. The presentation highlighted the Fine Arts program’s initiatives, student projects, and the integration of Indigenous artistic traditions into the curriculum.
The tour concluded with a meeting in Dr. Ottmann’s office, where discussions focused on key initiatives supporting Indigenous education and collaboration between FNUniv and the provincial government.
The visit underscored FNUniv’s commitment to accessibility, cultural engagement, and strengthening relationships with government representatives to advance educational opportunities for Indigenous students.
