The lack of detail surrounding the NDP government’s plans for the massive fund it expects to generate from its carbon tax had critics calling it a “black hole” and a “slush fund” Monday.
All opposition party leaders were concerned about the lack of information about the climate change fund that is expected to grow by $3 billion annually as a result of the government’s decision to put a price on carbon — $20 a tonne beginning Jan. 1, 2017, and $30 a tonne beginning Jan. 1, 2018
Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark said he has a lot of questions about the fund that is expected to grow to $5 billion a year by 2030.
“There needs to be some real tight controls over that $3 billion to make sure it doesn’t turn into a slush fund,” he said.
