Community hall remains open for anyone who needs place to shelter from smoke, says chief administrative officer

Kipsigak Arena in Igloolik will have to be demolished to stop a blaze that broke out overnight.

George Qaunaq, the hamlet’s chief administrative officer, updated Nunatsiaq News on the situation Wednesday morning.

“The fire is still blazing at the moment,” he said, adding crews are waiting for the power to be cut off so the building can be demolished.
