Incoming councillors hope new council will bring new ideas, perspectives – Fort Mcmurray Today

The incoming council will mostly be new faces who have never held elected office. They hope the results will bring new ideas and perspectives that have been lacking from previous councils.

Of the 10 incoming councillors, only councillors-elect Keith McGrath and Jane Stroud are incumbents. Sheila Lalonde, Jeff Peddle and Claris Voyageur lost their council seats. Mike Allen and Verna Murphy were defeated by mayor-elect Sandy Bowman .

In Ward 1, councillors include McGrath, former municipal managers Allan Grandison and Ken Ball, supply chain management worker Funky Banjoko, and frequent community volunteer Dogar Shafiq. Lance Bussieres, who was a Ward 1 councillor between 2013 and 2017, also made his return to the council chambers.
