Indigenous lacrosse traditions filled with deep meaning – Windsor Star

Former competitive lacrosse player Rain Whited shared his lifelong love of the game, including its significance in Indigenous culture, Monday at the University of Windsor.

“Lacrosse touches on all directions of my life — mind, body, spirit and emotion,” Whited said. “It’s an honour to be called on to share my story of the sport and share tradition.”

Whited, a member of the Oneida Nation of the Thames and former player for the Windsor Warlocks, Windsor Clippers and Wallaceburg Red Devils, began his visit with a guest lecture in the Ethics in Sport and Physical Activity course.

In attendance for the day were local First Nation, Métis and Inuit high school students as well as university staff and students.

Kinesiology professor Krista Loughead organized the event.
