ITK Message to Inuit Youth – Your Chance to Shine Brightly as a Torchbearer

We are seeking the TOP TEN INUIT YOUTH for the EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIVES!

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay begins in Victoria, British Columbia October 30th, 2009 and will visit the four Inuit regions of Canada’s Arctic. The Inuit component of the Olympic Torch Relay Program is a unique part of the torch relay event. It signifies VANOC’s commitment to unprecedented Aboriginal participation in the planning and hosting of the Vancouver 2010 Games.Inuit Language Torch Bearer Program:

Seven Inuit Youth between the ages of 13 – 30 years of age as of October 30th, 2009 will be selected to participate in the Torch Relay and assist in the movement of the Olympic Flame across the country.
1 Youth from the Inuvialuit Settlement Region will be selected
4 Youth from Nunavut will be selected
1 Youth from Nunavik will be selected
1 Youth from Nunatsiavut will be selected

Inuit Youth Flame Attendant Program:

Three Inuit Youth between the ages of 19 and 25 years of age will travel with the Torch Relay Team and perform as an apprentice Fire Keeper of the Olympic Flame to maintain the flame and keep back-up flames burning during it’s journey across the county.

To submit applications for either program please contact your local member of the National Inuit Committee on Vancouver 2010 who is assisting Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami in the submission of applications to VANOC for final selection.
