  • On November 4, 2025, the Liberal government under Prime Minister Mark Carney released its first federal budget.
  • In Budget 2025, Indigenous programs through Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) face a 2% cut in funding, which amounts to $2.3 billion. This follows up on Carney’s commitment to government-wide reductions in spending, with most other departments facing a 15% cut.
  • Much of the new commitments allocated specifically to Indigenous communities in Budget 2025 are around infrastructure and economy.
