Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission seeks new member
(Kahnawake – 15, Ohiarihkó:wa/July, 2024) The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission (“the Commission”) is seeking one (1) community representative to serve as a member on the Commission following the resignation of David A. Diabo, who had previously been one of the community representatives.
Roles and Responsibilities as a member of the Commission include:
- Providing oversight to MCK Justice Services;
- Ensuring the independence of judges;
- Ensuring the institutional independence of the Court of Kahnawà:ke; and
- Ensuring the reasonable and sufficient independence of members of the Administrative Tribunal.
The Commission meets monthly, with an honorarium provided as per the Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission Honorarium Policy. Eligibility requirements can be found in the Terms of Reference (click here).
Interested persons should submit a letter of intent by Wednesday, August 14, 2024, to:

The Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission consists of three (3) voting members, with one (1) non-voting member (the Commissioner of Justice) serving as the Chairperson. The Commission’s mandate is to provide oversight to Justice Services by monitoring its activities in matters concerning the administration of the Kahnawà:ke Justice System and to also ensure that the integrity of the Kahnawà:ke Justice System is protected and defended.
