The Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest (KNCLN) has secured a $179,000 grant from the Law Foundation of Ontario to advance Indigenous legal services in Kingston in partnership with Queen’s Law and Queen’s Law Clinics.

Over the past year and a half, the provincially funded Indigenous Friendship Centre has been building a relationship with Queen’s Law. This grant will allow them to move forward with research on effective Indigenous legal services and justice support.

Constance Carrière-Prill, Director of Strategic Development with KNCLN, emphasized in an interview with CFRC, “We need to create something that serves the local community and ensures that Indigenous clients receive the culturally safe legal support they deserve.”

This initiative is also the first step towards establishing a dedicated Indigenous legal clinic in Kingston in the near future.
