Letter: Saskatchewan’s government creates toxic brew of dysfunction – The Star Phoenix

A reader offers his opinion on the need to repair Saskatchewan after the current provincial government leaves office.

When a democratic government replaces the current failed one in 2024, it faces a huge repair job.

The shady dealings around the Global Transportation Hub need a public inquiry as does the irresponsible sell-off of the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) that has stranded rural communities and put their health at risk by denying timely medication delivery. And good luck if anyone needs speedy parts delivery.

A Trump-like disdain for health science specialists, late COVID preventative measures, falling for questionable American health advice, premature de-masking to appease extremist fringe groups, hiding COVID statistics from us, and chronic health system mismanagement have put all of us at risk.

A copycat American-style attack on the healthy identity development of school students disguised as “parental rights” promises to exact a long-lasting and painful social price for such ignorance.

Closing rural clinics, underfunding schools, overfunding fundamentalist schools, denigrating teachers, ignoring climate change warnings, failing to fund safe injection sites, ignoring suicide rates and homelessness, refusing to consult with First Nations peoples or to respect their treaty rights, failing to support long-term seniors’ health care, and generally failing to consult with the electorate, makes for a toxic brew of social dysfunction.
