Library and Archives Canada acquires 100 environmental interviews

by ahnationtalk on June 9, 202372 Views

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has just enriched its collections with a new acquisition: a series of environmental interviews entitled “The Green Interview.” This series includes about 100 interviews with prominent personalities, and six documentaries on the future of life on the planet and humanity’s collective responsibility to protect it.

Canadians now have online access to 35 transcripts of these interviews. They cover a wide range of topics, such as climate change, environmental justice, lessons from Indigenous laws and ecology, and urban rooftop farming. Interviewees include Margaret Atwood, Jane Goodall, David Suzuki, Mohamed Hage, Gregory Cajete, Edmund Metatawabin, Todd Labrador, Albert Marshall, and many others. The rest of the transcripts will be available online in the summer of 2023.

“Silver” Donald Cameron and videographer Chris Beckett produced “The Green Interview” between 2009 and 2020, to inspire Canadians to adopt more environmentally friendly behaviours.

LAC strives to acquire materials that reflect current issues affecting Canadians. New acquisitions are vital to LAC. We are working to build varied collections that bear witness to history and reflect the experiences of a diverse society.
