LUNENBURG, N.S. —
Lunenburg Town Council is exploring the possibility of forming an anti-racism task force after receiving a petition to rename Cornwallis and Creighton streets in honour of Black and Mi’kmaq historical contributions to the community.
Jessika Hepburn of Lunenburg presented the petition to the town council on July 28 and spoke of the immediate need for a commitment to building an anti-racist community, given the reaction of some to the petition.
Hepburn says she’s encouraged by the town’s reaction.
“My goal with starting the petition was to start a much bigger conversation and that is happening now,” she said via email.
