Media Advisory: Launch of First Nations Advisory Council report

EDITOR’S NOTE: The First Nation Advisory Council, created by the Office of the New Brunswick Child, Youth and Seniors’ Advocate, will present its report for Indigenous youth entitled No Child Left Behind (Katop Wasis Sesomiw Nokalawin (Wolastoqey) – Mo Nagelameg Neoteetjit Mitjoaatjitj (Mi’gmaq)) on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Maqiyahtimok Centre at 247 Maliseet Dr., St. Mary’s First Nation.

A Sacred Fire will be lit during a sunrise ceremony at 6 a.m. and will burn for two days to provide healing for those who have lost a youth to suicide, or who are dealing with youth with mental health concerns.

A news conference will be held at 10 a.m. Christian Whalen, child, youth and seniors’ deputy advocate; Graydon Nicholas, co-chair of the Stakeholder Council for the Youth Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Services Review; Roxanne Sappier, co-chair of the First Nation Advisory Council; and chiefs and elders from across the province will participate.

The launch of this report is part of the Child and Youth Advocate’s Youth Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Services Review.
