Recently Millbrook First Nation announced their Council’s decision to leave the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs (Assembly), the Consultation and Negotiation Processes. We respect the autonomy and the decisions made by individual bands.

The Assembly wants to thank Chief Gloade and Millbrook for their many contributions over the years. Chief Gloade sat as the Lead Chief for the Assembly’s Finance portfolio and his diplomacy and focus on relationship development created many new inroads for training, employment and business opportunities.

The dedication and commitment of our previous leaders has led us to a process of reconciliation. Our process continues to lead the way and remains committed to the protection of our historic Treaties. We will continue this journey with the guidance of our community members.

We are connected by culture, language, and traditions and we share a common spirit. Like a tree with many branches, each community is strengthened by the same roots. We must reconcile our differences with both the government and our communities.

The Made-In-Nova Scotia Process is a process we can all be very proud of. We want our community members to know that we will continue to build a strong foundation of Nationhood through a united vision; a vision that will achieve recognition, and protection of Treaty, Title and other Rights of the Mi’kmaq in Nova Scotia. Our Rights are based on a Nation-to-Nation relationship.

We are Mi’kmaq. We are Family. Unity for our future generations.
