Mi’kmaq, CBRM reach deal on cruise ship terminal expansion – The Chronicle Herald

SYDNEY — The chiefs of Membertou and Eskasoni say a deal with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality over the proposed expansion of the Sydney cruise ship terminal will help boost tourism and jobs for everyone, including First Nation people.

On Tuesday, the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs announced the deal, which includes a provision that at least five per cent of the development’s costs will be assigned to the Mi’kmaq.

The deal was struck by the Sydney Harbour Working Group, which includes officials from the municipality, Membertou and Eskasoni.
