Metis Student Wins Prestigious Award
Teulon, MB – Samantha Morin, a Citizen of the Metis Nation, has won the prestigious Loran Award. Morin is the only Manitoban and the only Metis Citizen to win the Award, which is valued at $100,000 over four years.
“I’m overwhelmed and very excited,” said Morin. “Initially I was selected as a provincial winner, and then I advanced to nationals. Once you hear the words (you won), it opens new horizons.”
Morin was one of 34 recipients chosen from across Canada out of a total 5,023 applicants. Her school, Teulon Collegiate, sponsored her application which included a thorough interview process.
“The Manitoba Metis Government is very proud of Samantha for receiving this incredible and life-changing Award,” said David Chartrand, President of the MMF. “Samantha is an inspiration to Metis children and youth, and by winning this Award she has demonstrated the possibilities that exist for other future leaders within our Nation.”
The Loran Award is given to young people who demonstrate character, service to their community and long-term leadership potential. More information about the Award is available at loranscholar.ca
