MNBC and IMFCSS Commemorate the Opening of the New Island Métis Child Care Centre
June 1, 2022 (Surrey, BC) – On May 31, 2022, Métis Nation British Columbia’s (MNBC) Ministry of Education and Island Métis Family and Community Services Society (IMFCSS) proudly commemorated the opening of the new Island Métis Child Care Centre, located in Victoria, BC.
Funding provided by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) Early Learning and Child Care Accord supported MNBC in building a community-based system of quality child care, so families have access to high-quality, affordable, flexible and inclusive early learning and child care. Along with support from the Province, IMFCSS and MNBC received Rapid Renovation funds to renovate an existing building for the new Island Métis Child Care Centre, leading to the approved application to be an Aboriginal Head Start Program.
Métis families in the area will now have access to safe child care spaces, where they can be immersed in the culture and language so they can develop a strong sense of belonging and identity within the Métis community, a big step forward for the Nation.
