Morning Brief: Tougher restrictions are unavoidable – iPolitics

— A grim COVID picture in Canada: Dr. Tam says tighter restrictions are unavoidable now, and the longer authorities wait, the longer the measures will have to last. She told CBC’s The National that while provincial and territorial medical officers have tried hard to keep up with testing and tracing in order to keep economies open, “it’s just something that people have never tried in the history of the last hundred years.” As for the upcoming holidays, she told Canadians to avoid large gatherings, not mix households, and skip non-essential travel.

Her advice came the same day Canada recorded its highest number of new cases in one day; two provinces broke the “Atlantic bubble,” putting up travel restrictions at their borders; and Alberta’s health authorities announced the number of COVID patients in ICUs could more than double in two weeks.
