National Indigenous Cannabis & Hemp Conference November 26 – 28, 2019
Delta Grand Okanagan Resort Kelowna, BC
The legalization of marijuana has created new social health and economic opportunities for Canada’s Indigenous population. Still, many communities lack the information necessary to capitalize on the growth of the cannabis & hemp industries. The National Indigenous Cannabis & Hemp Conference (NICHC), Nov. 26-28 at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort in Kelowna, BC, will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn from Indigenous experts while networking with Indigenous delegates from across the country.
The three-day event will feature panels and workshops, networking receptions, and tours of an Okanagan cannabis retail shop, medical clinic and grow operation with former Westbank First Nation Chief, Roxanne Lindley. Key topics will include Sourcing Project Capital and Governance: Developing Band Policy. Full-day workshops on Hemp Production and a blueprint for implementing Community Wellness programs, in which attendees will learn strategies for reducing the harm caused by addictions to opioids, alcohol, and other harmful substances
In 2018, more than 400 delegates attended the conference on the Tsuut’ina Nation at Grey Eagle Resort. Then, in early 2019, approximately 275 delegates descended upon the Shaw Centre in Ottawa where both Min. Petitpas Taylor and Min. Blair made themselves available for questions from the floor. The upcoming conference at the Grand Okanagan Resort will have a greater emphasis on implementing community health programs, policy and economic development, according to the Conference Chair, Howard Silver.
“Indigenous speakers who have been successful in the cannabis & hemp industries create an unprecedented opportunity for open and honest dialogue between community leaders. Real time experiences are shared and the face to face networking between Nations is invaluable.”
The NICHC is organized by Silver, who has been producing conferences across Canada for more than 30 years. In 2016, Cannabis Canada Forums showcased business opportunities within Canada’s emerging cannabis industry for the major industry Licenced Producers. In response to a request from Tsuut’ina Council members, the National Indigenous Cannabis and Hemp Conference was organized for community leaders across the country to help provide the resources necessary for nations to succeed in the Cannabis & Hemp Industries.
