The Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal and the Centre for Gender Advocacy are hosting a memorial march for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, Transgender, and Gender-Diverse+ (MMIWG2S+) people on Friday.
The march is beginning around 6 p.m. at Cabot Square before ending around 8 p.m. at Place du Canada.
It will feature several speakers addressing the ongoing issue of MMIWG2S+.
The Native Women’s Shelter says Statistics Canada data suggests that violence — including sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and domestic homicide — is higher among Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse individuals.
