Survivors are the foundation of Truth and Reconciliation in this country and integral to the work of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR). The Survivors Circle provides guidance and advice to the NCTR, Governing Circle, the University of Manitoba, and NCTR partners on the NCTR mandate and other important matters that may impact the broader Survivor community.

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation is currently inviting nominations and applications for the Residential and Day School Survivors Circle.

Members of the Survivors Circle will be prepared to work in a spirit of collaboration with the NCTR staff, Governing Circle, University of Manitoba, and partners of the Centre. The Survivor Circle meets monthly; however, there may be times Survivors will be asked to meet more frequently or participate in additional activities of the Centre. The majority of meetings throughout the year are virtual; therefore, ideal nominees will be comfortable using virtual platforms such as Zoom or Skype, although members will be invited to travel from time-to-time throughout the year.

As NCTR holds a national mandate, our goal is to have representation from various geographical regions as well as a balance of strengths and experiences. We invite First Nations, Inuit and Métis Survivors, organizations, groups, communities and individuals across Canada to submit Residential and Day School Survivors names for consideration.

Nominations will be reviewed by the NCTR Nomination Committee. The NCTR Governing Circle will have sole discretion to appoint the members of the Survivors Circle and will make every effort to balance cultures, languages, gender and geographic location in their selection.

The deadline for nominations and applications is Friday, September 30, 2022 at 4:30 PM CST.
