NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill about his party’s opposition day motion, which is set to be debated the following day in the House of Commons. The NDP is calling on the government to implement a one per cent wealth tax on individuals and families with a net worth over $20 million, as well as an excess profit tax on large corporations that the party says have been “profiteering” from the COVID-19 pandemic. The NDP wants the money recouped from these tax measures to be used towards expanding income security programs, putting in place a national dental care program and a universal pharmacare program, and funding an Indigenous housing strategy.

The NDP leader is also asked about the U.S. election. Ballots continue to be counted in several battleground states.
