THE STORY BEHIND YOUNG FOREVER

Young Forever is from Don’s fourth full-length album Heart On My Sleeve.
The album is self-produced by Don, and his most personal recording to date. If you listen from beginning to end, it tells a story steeped in the waves and emotions of Don’s own life. He is proud that Heart On My Sleeve was nominated for the 2013 JUNO Awards, and the 2013 Western Canadian Music Awards.

About Young Forever… Don Amero was on his way to Fredericton, on a flight without a TV. As he was perusing through the in-flight magazine – for the third time – he happened upon an award-winning short story that he’d missed in his last three looks. The story was about a woman whose husband was suffering from dementia and on his last days. One particular day, he was being somewhat “frisky” and he kissed her. The line that struck a chord with Don was when the woman said “He kissed me like a young man…” In that moment, Don started thinking about his own mortality. He came to the realization that even though we’re all young at heart, we can lose that
young person all too easy. And so the song came to him.

Don spent the next three days on the east coast, writing Young Forever. The song is about a person who is getting older, noticing his hair is going grey, and reflecting on how the years are flying by.

ABOUT DON AMERO

You can call Winnipeg’s Don Amero one of the hardest working independent musicians in showbiz today. Since leaving his hardwood flooring installer job six years ago to pursue music fulltime, his star has been on the rise. The singer/songwriter has toured coast-to-coast, headlined concerts, presented at festivals, performed with the symphony, played national television, and showcased in New York and Las Vegas.

Don’s musical style has been likened to John‐Mayer-meets‐Keith‐Urban. His first three albums (Change Your Life, Deepening, The Long Way Home) generated six national and international awards, and  20 more nominations. Don’s fourth album, the self‐produced Heart On My Sleeve, was nominated for the 2013 JUNO Awards, and the 2013 Western Canadian Music Awards.

Don Amero captivates audiences of all ages with powerful and expressive vocals, percussion-style guitar play, and engaging storytelling. He is often called upon as a keynote speaker, and to deliver workshops for youth. His story inspires, and his message is one of encouragement, positivity and beauty. He continues to impress wherever he goes.
