Nunatsiavut Government: COVID-19 Update

The Nunatsiavut Government wishes to provide the following COVID-19 update:

  • As of today, January 19, there have been 26 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the community of Nain.

o There are three active cases in the community. o There are no presumptive positive cases.

o  Twenty three (23) of the cases have recovered.

  • Newfoundland and Labrador remains in COVID-19 Alert Level 4 in an effort to decrease transmission of the virus.

The Nunatsiavut Government is reminding residents of all Labrador Inuit communities to remain vigilant, by following all public health protocols, and to stay at home and call 811 if symptoms of COVID-19 develop. Symptoms include:

  • Fever, including chills or sweats;
  • A new or worsening cough;
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing;
  • Runny, stuffy or congested nose;
  • Sore throat or difficulty swallowing;
  • Headache;
  • Loss of sense of smell or taste;
  • Unusual fatigue or lack of energy;
  • New onset of muscle aches;
  • Loss of appetite;
  • Vomiting or diarrhea for more than 24 hours; and,
  • Small red or purple spots on hands and/or feet.

Please note that the second vaccine dose for children between five and 11 years of age will begin in all

Labrador Inuit communities in early February. The vaccine is a still available for:

  • those 12 years of age and over for first and second dose; and
  • those 18 years of age and older for first, second and booster shots.

Please contact your community Public Health office to make an appointment to receive the vaccine.
