The tipi can also be seen from inside Maanjiwe nendamowinan, on the sixth floor where – less visible but no less important – U of T Mississauga has launched its first independent Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII-UTM).
The office was created at the suggestion of the UTM Indigenous Table, which includes Alexandra Gillespie, U of T vice-president and principal of U of T Mississauga, and is supported by Nythalah Baker, director of equity, diversity and inclusion. The Indigenous table meets monthly to advance Indigenous initiatives through academic and administrative streams. Early support for Indigenous initiatives at U of T Mississauga was also provided by Amrita Daniere, interim dean, Ulrich Krull, past U of T vice-president and principal of U of T Mississauga, and Susan Senese, who was previously interim chief administrative officer.
