The government of Ontario has announced it will invest up to an additional $260 million through the Skills Development Fund Training Stream to train workers in construction, technology and manufacturing.

The Skills Development Fund (SDF) was launched in 2021 to tackle Ontario’s labour shortage. This latest round of funding brings total investment in the fund to $1.4 billion. The fund has two streams: the training stream for hiring, training and upskilling programs for workers and apprentices, and the capital stream for upgrades or construction of training centres for the skilled trades.

The next round of funding for the SDF training stream opened on July 29, 2024 and runs until October 4, 2024. It covers recruiting, training and upskilling workers in manufacturing, construction and technology. Organizations can apply through Transfer Payment Ontario. Questions can be sent to skillsdevelopmentfund@ontario.ca.
