(Alta-Walmart-Pepper-Spray)

Two people had to be treated at hospital after an irate customer at an Edmonton store unleashed pepper spray.

At least 10 bystanders were also affected when the spray was discharged last evening at a Walmart in the city’s west end.

Emergency officials say someone got into an argument with staff at the customer service desk and fled after unleashing the substance.

The store was evacuated while crews washed down the service area and ventilated the building. (Global Edm)

(Sask-Escaped-Inmates)

A high-risk vehicle stop was carried out by Saskatoon police and the R-C-M-P last night when they arrested an escaped inmate.

Police say the 22-year-old prisoner got away from the Riverbend Correctional Institution near Prince Albert with the help of two other people.

All three were arrested at a road block that was set up on Highway 41 near Saskatoon when it was suspected the trio might be driving to the city.

The inmate is charged with escaping lawful custody, while a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman are charged with aiding in his bid for freedom. (The Canadian Press)

(Sask-Stabbing-Investigation.

The R-C-M-P has launched an internal investigation after a suspect in a Saskatchewan stabbing was injured while fleeing from Mounties.

Two people suffered minor injuries in last Saturday’s violence on the Mistawasis First Nation.

Police say a 20-year-old Saskatoon man was detained, but he fled following a search and suffered a minor injury while running through a field.

He was treated at the Shellbrook hospital and has been released from custody.

A senior Mountie is looking into how he was hurt, but the R-C-M-P has also asked the provincial Ministry of Justice to appoint an independent observer. (The Canadian Press)

(CRIME-Lousy-Search)

A Calgary woman has filed a complaint against city police after she says they did a lousy job of searching her stolen vehicle before it was returned.

Courtney Pickering says the thieves appeared to have left drugs, identification and weapons in her car after they took it last week.

She says the items were still inside when she went to pick it up at the police impound lot.

Police officials say they’re investigating the complaint. (CTV Cgy)

(Sask-Farm-Fatals)

Two people have been killed in a Saskatchewan farm accident.

R-C-M-P say a 62-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy died Monday, east of Burstall, while unloading a semi-trailer grain hauler.

Burstall deputy mayor Tegan Bodnarchuk confirms the two victims were a grandfather and his grandson and that the community is in shock.

(Alta-Farm-Worker-Safety)

Agriculture groups say they want to be at the table as Alberta’s new N-D-P government moves to include farm and ranch workers under provincial occupational health and safety rules.

Labour Minister Lori Sigurdson says the government wants to hear more from farmers and will release information about its plans in the late fall.

Rob Davies, general manager of Alberta Barley, says the farm groups want to ensure their views are included in coming months before final decisions on changes are made.

Alberta is the only province that excludes farm employees from workers’ compensation coverage and employment standards laws.

Chiefs from Manitoba’s northern First Nation are voting today to elect a new grand chief.

M-K-O incumbent David Harper is seeking a third term after serving for six years.

He’s being challenged by three other candidates, including Sheila North-Wilson, who could become the first woman to head the organization.

Chiefs and councillors from 30 First Nations will be casting ballots in Nelson House. (CTV Wpg)
