ST.JOHN’S, N.L. (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant will participate in the 39th annual conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers taking place in St. John’s, N.L., from Aug. 30 to 31.

Energy and climate change will be major themes of this year’s conference.

“We are working with our counterparts in Canada and the northeastern United States to create jobs and grow our economy in a sustainable way,” said Gallant. “That is why we have supported a responsible, diversified approach to energy development.”

During the conference premiers and governors will attend a session focusing on the changing energy landscape which will include a roundtable discussion to share their jurisdictions’ energy priorities and identify opportunities to address common challenges.

“I look forward to highlighting projects such as the Energy East pipeline, the conversion of the LNG terminal in Saint John and a recently announced program that will enable communities to generate their own renewable energy that can help us create jobs and economic growth responsibly,” said Gallant.

There will also be a session on how jurisdictions can be innovative in a low-carbon economy.
