Canadian premiers pledge support for all 94 Truth and Reconciliation recommendations
ST. JOHN’S––Slamming the federal government for inaction, Canada’s provincial and territorial leaders are vowing to implement all the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations to help First Nations people.
The premiers emerged from a meeting with aboriginal leaders in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L., Wednesday pledging to act on last month’s damning 381-page report on the cultural genocide of native people.
“It’s a very serious matter (and it) was moving for us,” Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Paul Davis said of a presentation given to the premiers about Justice Murray Sinclair’s expose of the horrors of Canada’s residential schools system.
