VANCOUVER, Nov. 30 – Submissions and nominations are now being accepted for the BC Creative Achievement Awards for Applied Art and Design and the BC Creative Achievement Award for Aboriginal Art for artists affiliated with BC First Nations.

An artist may be nominated or self-submit to these juried awards. Up to five awards of $5,000 will be presented for each award at formal ceremonies in the spring of 2008. Presented by the British Columbia Achievement Foundation, the awards recognize BC’s rich and diverse creative culture. The British Columbia Achievement Foundation was established and endowed by the Province of British Columbia in 2003.

Artists and designers who work in jewelry, glass, wood, fibre, clay and metal or in such areas as (but not limited to) textiles, furniture, weaving, ceramics, book binding, paper, fashion and industrial design are eligible to enter the BC Creative Achievement Awards for Applied Art and Design. Jill Allan, Glass; Rachelle Chinnery, Ceramics; Renata Crowe, Jewelry; Patricia Fieldwalker Fashion and Teale Merkeley, Furniture, were selected as the 2007 recipients.

Artists affiliated with a BC First Nation, whose focus is the practice of art, who have accumulated a body of work and who are recognized in their community as artists are eligible to enter the BC Creative Achievement Award for Aboriginal Art. Barbara P. Marchand, Okanagan Nation; Marianne Nicolson, Dzawada’enuxw; Chester Patrick, Gitxsan; Susan Point, Coast Salish; Christian White, Haida and William White, Tsimshian were selected in 2007.
