QIA AGM and BOD Conclude

Iqaluit, Nunavut, October 11, 2024 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) concluded their Annual General Meeting and Board of Directors Meeting today.

There were a few notable resolutions passed at this week’s meeting, which include:

  • Approval to update the Vice President position to a full-time position;
  • Approval of a delegated authority for the QIA President, consistent with prior QIA resolutions, to provide direction and support for the on-going negotiations of the Qikiqtani Project Finance for Permanence (Q-PFP) and pending the results of negotiations to approval final agreements
  • Approval of the Qikiqtani Inuit Protected and Conserved Areas Plan (QIPCAP) and related implementation priorities
  • Approval for Kakivak Association to enter into an agreement to complete construction of a Child Care Facility in Arctic Bay;
  • Approval for Kakivak Association to enter an multi-year agreement to support Inuuqatigiit Centre for Inuit Children, Youth and Families in Ottawa;
  • Approval for QIA to contribute $852,151 to Kakivak Association to go towards Economic Initiatives and the Nunavut Sivummut Funds;
  • Approval to allocate $1.5 million from the General Fund to fulfil the 2017 Pledge made to the Inuit Heritage Trust for the establishment of a Heritage Centre
  • Approval to allocate $2.2 million to the Community Resources and Opportunities Fund provided by the Revenue Allocation Policy

There were also nominations to the following boards: Kakivak Grants and Loans Appeals (Jemima Kuniliusie), Qikiqtaaluk Corporation (Blandina Tulugarjuk), Auyuittuq National Park Joint Planning and Management Committee (Jeanne Mike & Jamie Audlakiak), Sanikiluaq JPMC (Steven Amagoalik), Clyde River CJPMC (Jemima Kuniliusie), Kimmirut JPMC (Akeego Ikkidluak & Maliktoo Lyta), Nunavut JPMC (Qavavauq Issuqangituq), Kakivak Board of Directors (Methusalah Kunuk) and Sirmilik Nation Park JPMC (Andy Kalluk).  No nominations were received for Qusuittuq Community Joint Planning and Management Committee and Grise Fiord CJPMC, therefore will be readvertised.  Please watch out for the QIA social media pages and QIA website for nomination information for those boards.
