October 30, 2024
The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is pleased to present the 2023/2024 Annual Report, highlighting progress under the Paddling Together: Multi-Year Health Plan.
This year marks a significant milestone – 10 years since Health Canada’s First Nations Inuit Health Branch BC Region health services were transferred to the FNHA. Several transitions in leadership have taken place. We celebrate Colleen Erickson’s retirement as Board Chair, honouring her pivotal role in advancing FNHA’s mission. We welcome Dr. Sheila Blackstock as the new Board Chair, bringing over 36 years of experience and a longstanding commitment to First Nations health and wellness. Additionally, we remember and honour Chief Tłakwagila (Bill Cranmer), FNHA’s Vancouver Island Board Knowledge Keeper, whose leadership continues to inspire self-determination in First Nations health care.
Key accomplishments from fiscal 2023-24 include:
Co-hosting the Ninth Gathering of Healing Our Spirit Worldwide, welcoming over 3,700 Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants.
Advancing the First Nations-led Primary Health Care Initaitive.
Expanding and enhancing access to culturally safe care through new healing centres and traditional healing modalities.
Advancing the 10-Year Strategy on the Social Determinants of Health through the development of a two-year implementation plan.
Upholding its commitment to reciprocal accountability, the FNHA Annual Report offers a view of FNHA’s progress against the Multi-Year Health Plan’s performance measures, along with a detailed overview of revenues and expenditures.
