Recognize Albertans working to prevent violence
Sep 04, 2015
Albertans are encouraged to nominate community leaders for recognition in the fourth annual Inspiration Awards.
The awards honour extraordinary work in Alberta communities to prevent and address family violence. This year’s awards are being expanded beyond family violence to also recognize work in the areas of sexual violence, child sexual abuse, and bullying.
“We all have a role to play in stopping violence. There are many Albertans who make a positive difference and inspire us with their actions. Nominating these individuals is a way to thank them. Let’s celebrate the valuable work they do in making Alberta’s families and communities safer.”
Irfan Sabir, Minister of Human Services
Recipients will be honoured during Family Violence Prevention Month in November.
Up to three awards will be presented in the categories of:
- Family Violence
- Sexual Violence
- Child Abuse
- Bullying
Additionally, there will be an award for lifetime achievement and an award for emerging excellence, which recognizes people 24 years of age and under.
Nine Inspiration Awards were presented to outstanding Albertans and organizations last year for working to prevent family violence and support those affected by it. Jean Dunbar, of Jean Dunbar Counselling and Consulting, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her lifelong commitment to helping children overcome the impacts of family violence.
Nomination packages, with eligibility details and criteria, are available online or by calling 780-422-5916 (toll free in Alberta by first dialing 310-0000). Nominations must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30.
