Salary Increases Remain Muted Amid Economic Uncertainty

Ottawa, September 19, 2016—The Conference Board of Canada releases a sneak preview of its Compensation Planning Outlook 2017.

Report Highlights

  • Average increases for non-unionized employees is projected to be 2.2 per cent next year.
  • 11 per cent of Canadian organizations are planning a pay freeze across all employee groups.
  • Lowest average increases are expected to be in the oil and gas sector at 1.1 per cent. Meanwhile, workers in the high tech industry will have the highest increases at 2.8 per cent.
  • Regionally, Manitoba has the highest projected increases at 2.7 per cent, while the lowest average increase is expected in Alberta.
