Senators, campaigners and employees of federally funded agencies hold a news conference in Ottawa. The group is calling on the federal government to ban the use of public funds to pay for settlements that include non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
Speaking with reporters are senators Marilou McPhedran, whose bill (S-261) would enact the ban, and Kim Pate, who addresses the use of NDAs in federal prisons. They are joined by co-founders of the organization Can’t Buy My Silence, Julie Macfarlane and Zelda Perkins. Additionally speaking are Garth Caron, a former public service worker who speaks on his personal experience with an NDA, and Kim Shore, founder of Gymnasts for Change, who discusses the use of NDAs in publicly funded sports.
