Siksika Nation – Wildfire & Infrastructure Status Update: May 12, 2025
May 12, 2025
Wildfire Situation
The wildfire perimeter is holding firm; however, the fire has not yet been extinguished.
Today’s rain is expected to halt any forward movement; the fire remains contained but not yet fully extinguished.
Crews continue patrolling and checking the perimeter
Public Safety, Public Works, and the Fire Department continue to work together throughout this emergency response.
Power Restoration
Fortis crews are on‑site today replacing damaged power poles and inspecting the distribution network. Brief localized outages may occur while repairs are completed.
Infrastructure Assessment
Siksika Nation Engineering staff have been deployed to perform detailed inspections of affected roads, utilities, and public facilities in order to gauge damage and plan remediation.
Water Supply
The Boil Water Advisory for the Siksika East Public Water Supply (Maps 7‑9) has been rescinded by Indigenous Service Canada, Environmental Public Health Officer. System flushing is complete, chlorine residuals and turbidity are normal, and two consecutive bacteriological tests meet Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines. Water is safe for all household uses.
