Six Nations of the Grand River (SNGR) Parks and Recreation received Ontario Community Buildings – Capital Stream Grant to make much-needed improvements to facilities

Six Nations of the Grand River (SNGR) is pleased to acknowledge that the Parks and Recreation Department received a much-needed grant from the Ontario Community Buildings Fund – Capital Stream. This grant, with a commitment of $403,500, went towards facility upgrades at the SNGR Parks and Recreation Department. Many of those upgrades were to ensure public safety.

The SNGR Parks and Recreation Department expresses its gratitude to the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for approving this grant. This funding, which was released in April 2022 after being approved in September 2021, was used to make
improvements at the Parks and Recreation facilities. The grant funding was utilized by October 1, 2023, on the following projects:

  • Replacement of the swing doors with automatic sliding doors at the entrance to the Dajoh
    Youth and Elders Centre.
  • Replacement of the drinking fountain with a Water Bottle Fill Station at the Six Nations
    Sports Fields.
  • Replacement of 1999 Dasher Rink Board System at the Six Nations Sports and Cultural
    Memorial Centre (Arena).
  • Upgrade from Metal-Halide Lights to a LED Lighting System at the Six Nations Softball
    Diamond No. 2.

“These projects are crucial in replacing outdated operational equipment, improving public safety and enhancing accessibility to the Parks and Recreation facilities,” SNGR Director of Recreation Cheryl Henhawk said. “We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Government of Ontario, Will Bouma, MPP for Brantford and the County of Brant, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support in providing this much-needed grant to the community.”
