Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Mourns the Passing of Former MLA Steve Mapsalak

IQALUIT, Nunavut- Speaker Tony Akoak today issued the following statement:

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Mapsalak, who represented the constituencies of Akulliq and Aivilik during the 2nd and 4th Legislative Assemblies. Mr. Mapsalak was an accomplished hunter who served his community and territory as a mayor, municipal councillor and member of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board. On behalf of all Members of the Legislative Assembly, we extend our condolences to his family.

The community flags of Naujaat and Coral Harbour will be half-masted at the Legislative Assembly Precinct in honour of his passing.
