As governor general, as commander-in-chief and as head of the Canadian Heraldic Authority, I am so honoured to be here with all of you to unveil the heraldic badge for the Rainbow Veterans of Canada.

Congratulations to all of you on receiving this heraldic badge.

This is such a significant moment.

Today, we recognize what you have been through and the community you have built with the Rainbow Veterans of Canada.

You have made so much progress to ensure members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community can serve with pride in the Canadian Armed Forces. You have brought recognition, respect and support to LGBT Purge survivors and to the CAF veterans who identify as 2SLGBTQI+.

This heraldic badge symbolizes the resilience and strength of your community and recognizes your journey to achieve inclusion. It is a testament to your work in education, outreach and advocacy.

I am proud of the work you have done.

Today, we celebrate you—your stories, your courage, your dedication. And I will carry your stories forward with me, wherever I go in Canada.

Each and every one of you embodies your motto … you all serve with pride.

Thank you.
