Education and training were identified by First Nations people living off reserve as key to finding work, according to the 2017 Aboriginal Peoples Survey. When asked what would help them most to find a job, 27% of First Nations people living off reserve reported skills training or more education.

About one in seven Métis with jobs were self-employed, according to the 2017 Aboriginal Peoples Survey. Among self-employed Métis, 43% had an incorporated business, and 32% had employees. More than one in three (37%) reported choosing self-employment for reasons of freedom or independence.

More than 8 in 10 (84%) Inuit 15 years and over living in Inuit Nunangat had participated in harvesting activities and making handicrafts such as clothing, footwear or artwork, according to the 2017 Aboriginal Peoples Survey. One in five in Inuit Nunangat had done these activities for money or to supplement their income.

The territory of Nunavut was created in 1999 as part of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement between the Inuit and the Government of Canada. The goal of Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement was to increase Inuit participation in government employment in Nunavut to a representative level in the population. Currently, although the majority of Nunavut’s residents are Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, only half of government employees are Inuit.
Machinery and Equipment Price Index, third quarter 2018
The Machinery and Equipment Price Index (MEPI) increased 1.5% in the third quarter, following a 2.0% increase in the second quarter. The import component was up 1.7% while the domestic component increased 0.5%.
Dairy statistics, September 2018
The total amount of milk sold off farms in September reached 745 305 kilolitres, up 1.2% compared with September 2017. Total cash receipts from milk and cream sold off farms totalled $550.9 million in September, up 2.5% from the same month last year.
Natural gas transmission, storage and distribution, September 2018
Natural gas transmission pipelines received 542.6 million gigajoules of natural gas from fields, gathering systems and plants in September, up 3.0% from the same month in 2017. The vast majority of receipts were in Alberta (69.5%) and British Columbia (28.5%).

Pipelines received 20.5 million cubic metres of crude oil and equivalent products from fields and plants in September, down 2.2% compared with the same month in 2017. The vast majority originated in Alberta (86.4%), followed by Saskatchewan (10.4%).
